In 1926, Edgar Christian's body was found with two of his fellow travellers. It
was said that one of his comrades was his mother's cousin, John Hornby, and the other,
just a friend, Harold Adlard.
Their target was to reach Thelon river, before the caribu had gone. They went
too slow, and reached there in the middle of October when the caribu had all gone. They
stumbled over a log cabin. They thought that they could kill and eat the animals, which
would last them through the winter. They didn't and three yaers later their bodies were
found by an inspector.
By the side of Edgar Christian lay a note. The inspector picked it up, there
were some incomprehensible words. "look in stove" it said, and, inside the stove
was a diary. Edgar had kept it almost until he died. The diary was entered into almost
every day, it said how they tried to stay alive, their greatest fears and their
disapointments.
